Continue reading for my review of the KTM 1090 Adventure R, 1290 Super Adventure R and 1290 Super Adventure T. but in the end I settled on the CRF1000L Africa Twin from Honda->ke291.
The Africa Twin seemed to be designed with the KTM 1190 Adventure R in its cross hairs, and while it may not match its features and performance, the $4,000 difference was hard to justify for some customers. KTM got the message and has taken strong cost cutting measures to get the new 1090 Adventure R down into a more competitive price range.
It was aimed at riders looking to do a bit more off-road riding than on-road hauling. Soon, Triumph followed suit with the Tiger 800 XC in 2011, Honda with the Africa Twin in 2016, and eventually even KTM took a step back from its 1190 Adventure R with the introduction of the 1090 Adventure R.
You'll either learn to love letting it breath and hang on for the ride or you'll decide that you really want a motor tuned for low end in which case, the new P-twin from KTM is likely the wrong motor for you. Did you get the chance to do a full on WOT acceleration thru the RPM range on the KTM?
