What makes the 28-200 really special even vs those other 2 super zooms is the f2.8 wide end and the fact that it's still f4.5 thru around 112mm IIRC. It's like having a fast-ish standard zoom with a solid variable tele on top of it, all in a relatively small and sub-600g package.

Optics quality is surrely on Nikon's side. I have found two of these. "Nikon jewel" 80-200 f4, and "fastes Nikon autofocus" lens 70-210 4-5.6 D. Here, they are both around 120 US dollars. Fast autofocus is adventage, but constant f4 is also. Manual focusing is ok too. SteveCooper wrote: I can't comment on the new Sigma or the new Nikon. I CAN tell you that I've had older versions of the 70-200 f/2.8 from Sigma and Tamron, and I finally was able to purchase a used Nikon VRII version and it exceeded my expectations.
Vignetting is not an issue with either of these lenses. The 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 has negligible vignetting at any setting, while the Nikon Z 70-200mm f/2.8 only has noticeable vignetting wide open at f/2.8 (and even then, itβs not bad). Stop the 70-200mm down to f/4, and especially f/5.6, and vignetting disappears. 4.
