All models of surface pro 8 have active cooling (a fan). The i5 pro 7+ models do not have a fan and will throttle a lot harder under load. The pro 8 is made of aluminum whereas the pro 7+ is made from magnesium. Because of this the pro 8 is noticeably heavier. The pro 8 is also thicker than the pro 7+.

TL;DW: i5 seems to be almost as fast as i7. i7 runs hotter, sometimes throttles, fan is louder, battery life is slightly shorter. redtag789. •. Both use integrated GPU so both will have similar performance in 3D renders and 3D modeling ( I suspect average perf).
